NetApp - Summer Analyst

At NetApp, I worked within the Financial Planning & Metrics team, supporting the CIO’s office on internal reporting, cost visibility, and vendor management. NetApp, a Fortune 500 data storage and cloud services company, relies on a large network of internal teams and third-party vendors to support global IT infrastructure. My work focused on making that operational complexity easier to manage – by simplifying reporting and providing clearer insight into where the money was going.

Scope of Work

1. Business Operations Review

• Consolidated dozens of quarterly reports from departments under the CIO – spanning IT infrastructure, cloud ops, internal security, and enterprise applications – into a single, high-level business operations review.

• Designed the report to live in the company’s SharePoint sandbox, making updates easy and drag-and-drop simple for each team lead.

• Focus was on clarity and readability: providing the CIO with a centralized, structured overview that highlighted major performance, budget, and headcount changes in one place.

• Because stakeholder needs were still evolving, the report was built to be flexible rather than automated—prioritizing adaptability over engineering.

2. Vendor Spend Analysis & Reporting Package

• Created a comprehensive spend review across NetApp’s entire vendor ecosystem – tracking every third-party contract tied to IT, engineering, and enterprise software spend.

• Identified and compiled data sources from multiple systems, including procurement logs, GL reports, and team-level forecasts.

• Produced a year-over-year comparison by vendor, highlighting which groups were exceeding budgets or experiencing spend creep.

• The result was a foundational tool for NetApp’s finance and procurement teams to monitor vendor performance, begin instituting monthly budget checks, and identify opportunities to consolidate or renegotiate contracts.

Outcome

The Business Operations Review gave the CIO a clear, centralized view of a large and complex organization, helping reduce the noise from siloed reports. The Vendor Spend Analysis laid the groundwork for ongoing financial controls and vendor optimization. Together, the projects helped bring greater transparency and accountability to NetApp’s internal IT operations during a period of significant growth and digital transformation.
