Embarcadero Media - Reporter
2007
B2C
At Embarcadero Media, I got my start in journalism during high school, covering sports for the Palo Alto Weekly and later serving as an editor for the Palo Alto Voice. It was my first real exposure to deadline-driven work, where learning to write quickly, edit carefully, and hit print deadlines was essential.
As a reporter, I covered local high school football and soccer – showing up to games, taking notes from the sidelines, and writing recaps on tight turnarounds. I learned how to distill fast-moving events into a clear narrative, how to ask good questions, and how to file on time with accuracy.
As an editor, I led a team of six contributors and helped keep the weekly production cycle moving. It was equal parts coaching, organizing, and cutting words to make things fit. The experience taught me a lot about working under pressure, taking responsibility for others' work, and giving constructive feedback.
More than anything, Embarcadero was where I first learned how to communicate clearly, manage competing priorities, and work with people who cared deeply about the final product – skills I’ve carried forward into every role since.
